Hi PARENT,
My name is EXPERIMENTER, and I'm reaching out on behalf of the Bergelson Lab at Duke University. We've connected before on Instagram about the language surveys. We have another study that CHILD is eligible for, if you'd like to participate again.
This study is a home language recording. We'll mail or drop off a special audio recorder which sits inside a vest, which CHILD would wear for one day (see picture below!). This helps us understand the language environment, and how that influences children's vocabulary. You would receive $55 plus a toy or book for CHILD for completing the home language recording and a follow-up language survey.

Hi PARENT, The package is on its way and should arrive in just a few days! Here's what to expect:
Paperwork - all signature spots are highlighted.
Consent form: Explains our study, risks and benefits, and provides contact information if you have any questions
Audio release form: After removing any sensitive information, we share data with authorized researchers. This form explains that process, and allows each individual in the recording to decide whether they're comfortable with their data being shared in this way. This should be completed by anyone who's in the recording for more than a couple minutes (ex: family, friends, etc.), and it is absolutely okay to opt out of sharing!
Recorder instructions -- also attached to this email!
Payment forms (2): One for the surveys ($20) and one for the recording ($35). We'll send an Amazon or Visa gift card once we receive the recorders in the mail.
Vests (2) - Pocket goes in the front, and recorder goes in the pocket! On the day of the recording, please have your child wear the vest all day, taking it off (and keeping it nearby) for naps, baths, or car rides. We packed an extra one in case of spills :)
Recorder - On the day of the recording, you'll turn the recorder on and start recording (see instruction sheet or instructions on recorder) in the morning. It will turn off automatically after 16 hours.
Toy and shirt - A small thank you for participating!
Prepaid return sticker - Prepaid and ready to ship back in the box once you're done! Please send back the paperwork, vests, and recorder.
Communicative Development Inventory: This survey asks about words your child says. I'm available over text, phone, or email if you have any questions.
