How to get started in the BLAB!

1. Ethics Training

  • Follow the instructions here to complete the Social & Behavioral research course.

  • Make sure to choose "research with children" as one of your elective modules.

  • If you have completed some sort of CITI training before, you can see if you have completed these particular modules before: click on "My records," open your completion report transcript by clicking "View / Print", then navigate to the "REQUIRED, ELECTIVE, AND SUPPLEMENTAL MODULES" section on the second page)

  • Click "Copy Link" and paste in an email to send your completion report to lab manager

  • Go back to the homepage of your courses. Click on Harvard University, scroll down and click "Add a Course" and choose Information Privacy and Security. Select "Researcher" for your learner group. Complete the course and send the completion certificate to lab manager

2. Accounts

Make sure to be added to:

  1. Set up Duo Multi-Factor Authentication for Harvard:

  2. Be added to the lab Clickup

  3. Be added to the shared lab email inbox

  4. Be added to the VPN tunnel and Blab-Share

  5. Be added to the relevant Google groups

  6. Be added to the Blab Slack

  7. Be added to lab IRB protocols

  8. Have lab manager make you an LDS database account

  9. Be assigned a blab-core mentor

  10. Be added to the Gitbook private pages

Lab-general training you will receive:

  • recruiting, phone, email

  • ACLEW style annotation for VIHI

  • scheduling

  • Experiment visit support

  • Consenting and paperwork

  • Any data collection methods you will work on for your mentor

If you ever don't know how t do something, ask lab staff!

2. To begin a shift:

Connect to the VPN

  • Open Cisco AnyConnect

  • If the network is not already "Harvard VPN", enter "vpn.harvard.edu/bergelsonlab". Click Connect.

  • This will take you to the HarvardKey verification page in a browser window: Enter your Harvard email and password. Click OK.

  • When successfully connected to the VPN, the Cisco AnyConnect logo will have a gold padlock on top of it

Mount the BLab-Share storage server:

  • On Mac:

    • open Finder, press "cmd+K", paste smb://sox4.university.harvard.edu/Fas-Phyc-PEB-Lab, and click "connect".

    • Use you Harvard Key credentials to log in.

  • On Windows:

    • open Explorer, right click "This PC" in the left side bar (or an equivalent somewhere else), click "Map a network drive", paste \\sox4.university.harvard.edu\Fas-Phyc-PEB-Lab, click "OK".

    • Use you Harvard Key credentials to log in.

Check Slack and Clickup throughout your shift!

3. When finishing a shift:

  • Make sure to log out of the:

    • Drives

      • Mac: right click the desktop icon for both the Bergelson Lab folder and the Fas-Phyc-PEB-Lab folder and click "Eject", OR open Finder and click the arrow next to each drive's name.

      • Windows: Open Computer, right click each drive's icon, "Disconnect".

    • Bergelson Lab Email

    • Your personal accounts
