SF5 Visit Protocol

Protocol for SF5 visits in Rochester, NY, conducted by Shannon Dailey. No longer used (data collection complete). Contact Shannon with any questions.

Video Recording of Play Session

  1. Only complete the video if the parent has agreed to do the in-lab play session while being video recorded.

  2. After completion of the CELF and the bus story, allow children to have a quick break (for snacks, potty, etc.)

  3. Bring the child and the parent into the testing room and get out the specified toys (set of blocks and set of K'nex toys). Tell them to have fun and play however they want for 15 minutes. Start the video recording and leave the room.

  4. After 15 minutes, return and stop the video recording.

  5. After the visit, import the video files and move them to PN-Opus in the relevant folder within Subject_Files.

Audio Recording

  1. Give parents the recorder packet, including the charged LENA, a shirt/vest of the appropriate size, the release form, and an instruction sheet.

  2. Briefly go over how to turn on the recorder with the parent and the general recording instructions.

  3. Schedule a time to pick the recorder up.

  4. After getting the recorder back, import it according to the LENA SP instructions.

iPad assessments preparation

NIH Toolbox

  1. Open NIH Toolbox app on iPad.

  2. Tap Participants.

  3. Tap Add New Participant in upper right corner.

  4. Under Participant, enter S + subject number for Identifier, e.g. "S01". Add gender and birthdate.

  5. Under Assessments, tap Add New Assessment on the right-hand side.

  6. Tap Add Instruments.

  7. Select Picture Vocabulary Test.

  8. Tap Done in the upper right corner.

WPPSI

  1. On a computer, sign into http://qiactive.com.

  2. Go to the Clients tab, then click Create New.

  3. Enter the child's initials in the First and Last Name fields. Enter their subject number as Client ID, and fill out their date of birth and gender.

  4. Click Create Assessment.

  5. Choose the "WPPSI subtests" custom battery (or add the block design and matrix reasoning tasks from WPPSI-IV Ages 4-7). Click Next.

  6. Enter the scheduled assessment date and the time of the lab visit. Click Finish.

  7. On the Assessments page, click Send to iPad.

  8. On the iPad, make sure the assessments appear. If not, click Sync and then they should load.

Exporting data from iPads

NIH Toolbox

  1. Tap Export Data on the app home screen.

  2. Select/unselect the participants you want to export.

  3. Tap Select Export Method in the upper right corner.

  4. Tap the Email icon in the lower left corner.

  5. Email them! (Shannon, shannon.dailey@duke.edu)

WPPSI

  1. On a computer, sign into http://qiactive.com.

  2. On the Assessments tab, click Bulk Export.

  3. Choose your desired dates and instruments and click Generate and Export.
