How we used to run home visits

Home Visits

Before the visit

  1. Check the visit event in the Google Calendar for any notes/reminders.

  2. Find their address on their Subject Info Card.

  3. Pack the bin. Be sure all of the following are in the bin prior to leaving: a. Binder with Home Visit Checklist b. Pen c. Paperwork: babbling questionnaire (odd months only), AV release form, Contact Info Sheet d. iPad(s)/iPhone – charged e. Correct size hat or child headband with Velcro f. Looxcie cameras – both charged & old videos deleted (need 3 for 6-9mos, need 4 for 10-17mos) g. Parent headband with velcro (9-17mos only) h. USB audio recorder (9-17mos only) i. 2 Lenas – charged j. Camcorder – charged k. Tripod AND camera clip l. Correct size LENA vest (ask staff if not sure) m. $$ & receipt book (see VisitPayments) n. Subject Info Card o. Any paperwork not yet completed by parent

Setting up

  1. Sync Looxcies to the iPad(s)/iPhone via Bluetooth and open the video stream with the Looxcie app.

  2. Attach two Looxcies to the child hat/headband. Adjust and calibrate cameras on the baby's head using the video stream.

  3. Set up camcorder.

  4. 9-17mos only: Have the parent put on the parent headband. Attach a Looxcie.

  5. 9-17mos only: Put the LENA vest on the baby. Turn on the USB audio recorder and put it in the vest pocket.

  6. Write down the following on the checklist sheet: a. which camera is pointing up (the camera number is written in silver on the back of the camera) b. which camera is pointing down c. 9-17mos only: which camera is on the parent d. 9-17mos only: the color/number of the USB audio recorder e. the LENA the family is given

  7. Hit record on all cameras. Double check that they're all recording before you leave!

  8. Leave for an hour! :)

  9. Consult map guide for nearest coffee shops/libraries/etc [SM's priority]

After the recording

  1. Turn the cameras off by pressing the start/stop record button on the cameras.

  2. Put all Looxcie cameras in their cases and close the lens cover of the camcorder.

  3. Give parent a LENA, AV release form, and LENA vest and schedule pickup if possible.

  4. Explain Audio/Video Release Form.

  5. Odd months: Administer babbling questionnaire.

  6. Have parent fill out any paperwork they need to. Collect paperwork, if any, or confirm that you will pick it up when collecting the LENA.

  7. Fill out receipt and pay the parent.

After Home Visit

  1. Label bin with the subject and visit number (ex. 01_06).

  2. Write the audio pick-up on the whiteboard.
