This assumes you've already run the WordCompare script for both the first and second month for the child and are ready to pick the stimuli to test on for the in-lab visit. The output of this creation process is a stimuli spreadsheet and a datasource spreadsheet that you will then turn into a text file on Iris (the eyetracking pc)
Picking the Words: Looking at the output of the WordCompare that you saved as e.g. 02_06_unique.txt and 02_07_unique.txt, you need to pick 2 video and 2 audio words from each unique file.
a. video words: these will be the child's own version of the object e.g. their ball, their drum, so for the video words you want to consider how easy it will be to find images of the objects (e.g. we wouldn't use a picture of the child's own nose)
b. audio words: here we'll use generic images of the objects, e.g. a prototypical bottle, since we don't know what this word looked like to this child (unless it was also in the video)
c. general considerations:
look at the generic words that are already being tested for that visit for all children (in the month specific words file here. the words you pick shouldn't be very similar to any of these (e.g. if kitty's tested as a generic don't pick cat as a unique)
the goal is to find 8 words that are fairly different from each other visually, semantically, and phonetically, and heard by the child at a high frequency in our recordings.
these selected words then need to be paired into unique_video and unique_audio pairs (since the child's own objects are likelier higher saliency than generic images)
d. once the words are selected, they should be slotted into this stimuli template
there are lots of notes in that spreadsheet to remind you what to do; it only gives the viewer 'view' privileges, not edit, so it should be copied into a real excel file for your stimuli excel spreadsheet
Making the datasource template
a. copy and paste the appropriate order of spreadsheet from |[this document][link to attachment: datasource_template_with_formulas.xlsx] (e.g. for order 3 copy and past the first row, and then the 36 rows for order 3) into a new excel file that you title with the baby's number of upcoming visit, e.g. DataSource0208.xlsx
b. using the stimuli excel spreadsheet you generated above, replace the items and pairs with the words you've chosen:
select columns B and C in your excel and use find+replace to insert the items into the spreadsheet; make sure you select 'Find entire cells only'
do the same for the pairs column, column F
Save the excel into the eyetracker folder on opus for that subject for that visit
On opus, open the file from iris (the eyetracker), and save it as a tab-delimited text file, e.g. DataSource0208.txt
